Job description

Loyal Source Government Services is looking for a qualified Optician to work at the Baton Rouge VA in Baton Rouge, LA as a civilian contractor promoting and restoring patients’ health.

RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Provide frame information and measurements to the VA Vista system

  • Answer beneficiary questions related to the eyeglasses and eyeglasses order.

  • Contact no-show beneficiaries to determine if the beneficiaries will be obtaining eyeglasses through the VA Optical Shop. Schedule appointment as appropriate. Advise the facility Clinical COR when a beneficiary declines services and annotate contact with veteran on the consult in the VA Vista System.

  • Maintain professional customer relations. Meet the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicate and treat customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provide the customer with accurate information according to established policies and procedures. Handle conflict and customer concerns constructively and appropriately.

  • Verify with Prosthetics staff that each eyeglass order is associated with a purchase order.

  • Work closely with Clinical COR and or staff members regarding administrative issues as early as possible once issues are discovered.

  • Electronically and securely transmit all eyeglass orders to the contractor manufacturing facility.

  • Track eyeglass orders weekly with the contractor for verification of receipt of prescription or order using the patient information and purchase order number as a reference. Obtain tracking information, as needed to assist the customer.

  • Communicate directly with beneficiaries on optical issues as they arise (often by telephone).

  • Maintain an electronic log of phone calls from beneficiaries and document actions taken on electronic log and consult/prescription.

  • Troubleshoot all optical issues, verify with the contractor manufacturing facility that eyeglass fabrication is completed as prescribed. Contact eye clinic directly for guidance and remediation for issues not related to fabrication.

  • Provide eyeglass repairs (primarily eyeglass screws and nose pads).

  • Receive eyeglasses, notify veterans that eyeglasses are ready for pick up and/or fitting and mail eyeglasses to veterans when patients are unable to go to VA for appropriate fittings.

  • Opticians shall not enter or create prescriptions (to include those initiated by a non-VA provider, handwritten/paper or otherwise). Prescriptions will be entered by a VA licensed optometrist or VA authorized designee. Prescriptions must be electronically linked to a VA clinical exam note, VA electronic order, or VA authorized appointment for use in the performance of this contract.

  • Opticians shall only utilize, VA authorized/ designated, software in the performance of this contract to initiate/ resolve patient optical shop appointments (scheduled and unscheduled) and associated encounters, and to electronically capture prescriptions or prescription notes, created by a VA licensed optometrist or VA authorized designee, when required.
