Description
The Ranch Maintenance Assistant is responsible for providing general maintenance support throughout the ranch. The Ranch Maintenance Assistant reports directly to the Estate Manager, but will support all ranch team members in their day-to-day work; this includes supporting a Caretaker/Land Manager, Maintenance Manager, Gardener, Chef, and Housekeepers. The Ranch Maintenance Assistant is often called upon to assist in a variety of situations and must be flexible and able to switch gears quickly. This is a physically demanding position that requires working in varying weather and/or other difficult conditions. Work hours are typically Monday through Friday, from 7:30am-4:00pm, but the role requires flexibility to work occasional overtime or weekend time.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with the general maintenance and upkeep of the estate, including maintenance of buildings, grounds, and property infrastructure
Perform various pest control tasks around the property (i.e. control for hornets, rattlesnakes, moles, rats, ants, )
Assist with the heavy lifting, tilling, and compost processing of the edible garden
Maintain perimeter fencing, gravel driveways and perform general property upkeep (e.g. clearing fallen fruit in the orchard, cutting and removing fallen trees, clearing creek beds, )
Inspect the estate’s pool and fountains daily for cleanliness and overall appearance and function
Manage the garbage and recycling needs of the property
Perform off-site errands such as material and dump runs
Tend to the ranch’s chickens and cats daily
Provide dog-on-leash patrol, general surveillance, and maintenance of the walking trails
Operate, clean, fuel, and maintain vehicles & equipment
Provide support with outdoor building maintenance such as cleaning downspouts, gutters, catch basins, solar panels,
Retrieve & distribute incoming mail and packages to family and staff
Assist with special event set-up and execution
Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times
Be vigilant around fire safety and prevention
QUALIFICATIONS:
Team-player with personable and professional demeanor
Ability to adapt, prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive projects
Must have scheduling flexibility, understanding that there will be increased demands from time to time given special events, projects,
Experience with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
Responsible, organized, timely, and dedicated
Have a can-do attitude; willing to pitch in wherever help is needed
Good verbal and written communication skills
Valid driver’s license
While not required, any experience with the following is considered a plus:
Ability to operate heavy equipment such as a tractor, excavator, skidsteer,
Carpentry
Advanced tree pruning and experience with chainsaws
